First Lady Iriana Jokowi inaugurated the peak celebration of the 44th anniversary of the National Crafts Council (Dekranas) at Alila Hotel Solo on Wednesday (15/5).

The event was attended by thousands of people, including Dekranas officials from 38 provinces, heads of PKK from regencies/cities across Indonesia, and ministers’ wives who are part of the Indonesian Cabinet Solidarity Action Organization (OASE KIM).

The event was officially opened by Iriana, who struck a gong and cut a traditional tumpeng rice cone, which was then handed over to the Chairperson of Dekranas, Wury Ma'ruf Amin.

Selvi and Kahiyang Ayu Dance Along

Singers Judika and Rossa entertained the crowd. Solo PKK Chairperson Selvi Ananda and Kahiyang Ayu joined the dance, especially when the songs "Ojo Dibandingke” and "Rungkad” played.

Iriana was amazed by the appearance of the women attending the celebration, as they were all dressed in their respective regional traditional attire.

"I was astonished because all the women wore fabrics from their regions. On this special day, I would like to wish Dekranas a happy 44th anniversary,” Iriana said briefly in her speech.

The main event of Dekranas' 44th anniversary began on May 15 with a thanksgiving ceremony and the opening of the Expo.

First Lady Iriana, along with Dekranas Chairperson Wury Ma’ruf Amin and all central board members of Dekranas and OASE KIM members, then toured the Expo at Pamedan Pura Mangkunegaran.

In her speech, Iriana praised the hundreds of participants and guests, who were mostly Dekranasda members, for proudly showcasing their local fashion products.

"Yes, I was amazed because all the women here wore fabrics from their regions. On this special day, I officially open the 2024 Dekranas Expo. Thank you,” she stated.

Dekranas Chairperson Wury Ma’ruf Amin highlighted that since its establishment 44 years ago, Dekranas has experienced many challenges and achievements.

"We have seen and heard how Indonesian craft products have gained national and international recognition. Let us continue to grow together, inspire each other, and elevate our cultural heritage to a higher level,” urged Wury.

Dekranas Deputy Chairperson and Head of the 44th Anniversary Celebration Committee, Loemongga Agus Gumiwang, emphasized that this year’s theme, ‘Growing Together, Advancing the Nation’s Heritage,’ reflects the spirit of fulfilling Dekranas' vision and mission.

"With this theme, we invite all Indonesians to participate in preserving and developing crafts and textiles, which are integral parts of Indonesia’s cultural wealth,” Loemongga explained.

Dekranas' anniversary falls on March 3, and Loemongga noted that a series of events had been held since March 2024, including training, mentoring, and workshops in collaboration with various ministries and agencies, as well as a cheap food bazaar to support the community.

"The peak celebration of Dekranas’ 44th Anniversary begins today, attended by 1,500 guests. It will be followed by the 2024 Dekranas Craft and Culture Float Parade, starting from Sriwedari Stadium to Pura Mangkunegaran, along with a four-day Expo,” Loemongga added.

The Dekranas Expo features 257 craft product booths, Nusantara culinary stalls, and consultation services for artisans.

Importantly, a Dekranas Talk will be held as a platform for discussions on topics such as digitalization of small and medium-sized industry products, global market expansion, and branding strategies. These discussions will involve representatives from ministries, government institutions, private sectors, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), and Dekranasda from various provinces, regencies, and cities.

The event will conclude with a Decorated Float Parade and Cultural Procession competition, where participants will compete for the First Lady’s Trophy. The parade will feature hundreds of decorated floats along a 2.3-kilometer route.

The celebration was enlivened by a decorated float parade on Jalan Slamet Riyadi on Wednesday (15/5) and the Dekranas Expo, held from Wednesday to Saturday (15-18/5) at Pura Mangkunegaran Exhibition Hall. Various curated crafts from each province were showcased across 257 booths.
