Solopos.com, SOLO– First Lady Iriana Jokowi was momentarily surprised by the appearance of the women attending the peak celebration of the 44th anniversary of the National Craft Council (Dekranas) at Alila Hotel Solo on Wednesday (May 15, 2024).

The women present were members of Dekranas and Dekranasda from all over Indonesia. A total of 1,500 guests attended the peak celebration of Dekranas' 44th anniversary and the opening of Dekranas Expo 2024.

"I was surprised when I entered because all the mothers were wearing fabrics from their respective regions. On this special day, I would like to wish the National Craft Council a happy 44th anniversary,” she said before opening the event.

Iriana did not make many statements. She struck a gong to officially open the Dekranas Expo, which is being held from Wednesday to Saturday (May 15-18, 2024) at Pamedan Pura Mangkunegaran. Various crafts from different provinces are showcased in 257 booths.

Singers Judika Nalom Abadi Sihotang and Rosa entertained the women. Among those who danced along were Iriana and the Chairwoman of Solo’s Family Welfare Empowerment Movement, Selvi Ananda, especially during the songs Ojo Dibandingke and Rungkad.

The Chairwoman of Dekranas, Wury Ma’ruf Amin, explained that Dekranas serves as a platform for developing Indonesia’s craft industry. Indonesian crafts have a long history filled with challenges and achievements.

"Indonesian crafts have gained attention both nationally and internationally. This is due to the contributions of artisans, designers, media, SMEs, the government, and related institutions in bringing Indonesian products to the global stage,” she stated.

According to her, Indonesian crafts face challenges from the current global situation. Creativity and perseverance are essential in enhancing product quality and expanding market networks for export.

"Craftsmanship must embrace environmental sustainability, improve welfare, and ensure generational continuity. All aspects are needed to properly develop our cultural heritage,” she added.

Deputy Chair of Dekranas, Loemongga Haoemasan Agus Gumiwang, stated that the series of events for Dekranas' 44th anniversary had begun in March with training, mentoring, and workshops.

"Today marks the peak event, which will include a cultural craft float parade from Sriwedari Stadium to Pura Mangkunegaran. The expo at Pura Mangkunegaran will last for four days until Saturday, featuring 257 booths showcasing creative economy products, Nusantara cuisine, and guidance services for artisans,” he explained.
